GORE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
Making Disciples of Christ by Sharing God’s Love
Our logo highlights our dual commitment to love God and love others. The triangle is an ancient symbol for God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The butterfly is an ancient symbol of new life and new birth which reminds us that God’s power is here to set us free to be all that God has created us to be as children of God.
To our Visitors:
We would love to have you have join us for worship. Our prayer is that you would sense the love of God. Please take note of the following:
- Nursery is available for all children age 3 and under.
- Please fill out our visitor card in the pew rack and place it in the offering plate as it comes by. Also if you have any prayer requests drop that card in too.
- Following worship each Sunday there are Sunday School classes for all ages. See the bulletin board for locations.
Our Distinctives:
- Every church has things that make it what it is, including Gore United Methodist Church. Here are some important aspects of our community:
- We have OPEN MINDS, OPEN HEARTS, AND OPEN DOORS. That means we are diverse and love it! We come from many different backgrounds, denominations, perspectives, racial groups, and are of all ages. We think this is awesome and we celebrate it!
- We boldly proclaim the life-changing, world-shaking LOVE OF GOD. We believe God loves all people everywhere and it is our privilege to shout it from the mountaintop!
- Our worship is designed to incorporate the best of the old, the best of the new, and the best of the rest when it comes to style. We sing all different kinds of songs; we pray lots of different ways. In one service we may have a modern up-beat song and a contemplative song from the 4th century. This is in celebration of what we call the COMMUNION OF SAINTS, which means we are one with all Christians everywhere, past and present. We are ONE CHURCH worshipping one God, for one mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ.
Ø Finally we like to have FUN. We believe God created us for JOY! Life is meant to be enjoyed and our community loves to come together, love each other, and reach out in Christ’s love to others.
History of The Gore United Methodist Church
A Methodist Church was established in 1888 at Illinois Station, a railroad stop east of the Arkansas river. In 1909 a new church was built on the site where the present day church is located, and the name changed to Gore Methodist Church. You will find in this church a friendly people from all walks of life who believe in a God who lives and has revealed himself through Jesus Christ, a God who extends his grace to all and calls us to a faith that is expressed in loving action. We view the church as a vital aid in living out our faith. We are not dogmatic in theology and welcome persons of various theological positions. Four guidelines are the measuring sticks of our belief: scripture, the tradition of the church, our own experience and the capacity to reason together. We are not a perfect people, but a seeking people, we do not claim to have all the truth or all wisdom, but we are a searching and learning community of faith. We invite you to bring your unique experiences and join us on the journey of faith.
